Teacher's Day@ CIIT

    To Sir, With Love...

Were you there to witness the Teacher's Day celebrations held on the evening of Sep 5, 2001? No? Well ... you missed something,! This three- hour program organized by the students in honor of the faculty members celebrated the deep and beautiful relationship shared by the students and teachers at CIIT. Anchored by Darpan Sharma and Sabiha Khan, the event proved to be an energetic manifestation of enthusiasm, which will be fondly-reminisced by all of us, in times to come.

The program started with an inspirational song dedicated to the teachers, 'Itni Shakti Hamein Dena' by Preeti Jain. This was followed by a sequence of action packed dances, melodious songs, a mystifying magic show, thought provoking speeches and an absolutely hilarious skit, all performed by the students.

There was a rainbow of songs, namely, 'Sayyo Ni', 'Naache Mann Mora', 'Neele-Neele Ambar Par', 'Dum Maro Dum', 'Main Nikla O' Gaddi Leke', 'Badan Pe Sitare Lapete Huye' and 'Ande Ka Funda'. The songs eventually found their way into the moods of senior faculty members too! Mr. M.K.Pareek couldn't resist swinging to the tune of the classical song 'Naache Mann Mora', sung by Anshuman. Gaurav Sarwate's song, 'Neele-Neele Ambar Par' made quite a few souls go down memory lane!

In nearly all the songs we had a common Congo and Tabla player - Aalok Singhvi, a fresher. This guy seized this opportunity and proved himself. Our own guitarists Dhruv Trivedi and Anshuman unleashed the magic of their talent and set the rhythm of the event, winning applause of the audience! CIIT seems to be building up its very own and unique band!

As for the dances, there were six sequences, with the majority being inspired by recent hits. Swati Kakkar and Richa Chaluaborty, both just rightly dressed as Radha and Krishna respectively, staged a great performance based on 'Madhuban Mein Jab Kanhaiya...' from Lagaan. The dance on 'Jise Dhondhta Hoon Har Ghadi' was very well choreographed and received an overwhelming applause.

The Freshers wouldn't lag behind and made the grade with a fusion dance, which was a fabulous idea. Mr. Chaturvedi couldn't hold his appreciation - many witnessed a rare to be seen smile!

The girls of IMPITA-2K-A showed great co-ordination in 'Koi Kahe Kchta Rahe...', again from the all time favorite 'Dil Chahta Hai'. The crowd also liked the choreography by a mixed group on the song, 'Roop Tera Mastana'. The hostel girls performed well in the peppy dance number 'Kambakht Ishq'.

Besides the songs and dances, there was some food for thought as well. There were five speeches, two in Eiiglish, three in Hindi. Among the Hindi speakers were Preeti Jain, who told us about the basic need for teaching. Kumar Saurav, talked about the essence of teaching in the current scenario and Ashok Singh raised the issue of commercialization of teaching. Kuldeep Luila spoke well, referring to India's status as that of the Vishwa-Guru. Amit Bbatnagar concluded with an emphasis on the true role of a guru in our lives and expressing his appreciation for our teachers, on being just that. A commendable performance, to say the least!

What followed was a magic show that thrilled and mystified the audience! This show was a sole performance by Kunal Gupta. Consider this... a boy's hands are tied with a chain and locked; the keys are hidden somewhere. ! A moment later, we hear mumbo jumbo and abracadabra and lo and behold... the guy's hands are free again! One of the many incredible feats performed by our very own charmer! Kunal, Tera Jadoo Chal Gaya!

All things come to an end. Probably the end ot sobriety came with the skit, after which, all hell broke loose! We had a hilarious skit with the whackiest and the funniest ingredients possible! Abhishek Jadon, whose wild imagination portrayed the 'Swayamvar of Draupadi' with all the paraphernalia of 21st century, directed the skit! All the participants wore funny (sorry!) dresses and were appropriately armed (?). Tanu Kushwah played the central role of Draupadi, while the role of Shakuni was very well judged by our owr Seemant Shankar. Sachin Sharma played the 'lear 'n' thin' Bhim who had trouble holding his 'Gada' in place!

Among other participants were Prateek as blind Dhratrashtra, Sugandha as Gandhari, Deepak Sihag playing Yudhishtara, Saurabh Misbra as Arjuna, Monish and Navaldeep as Nakul and Sahdev, Ashutosh Mishra playing Duryodhan and Ankit Tambar as Dushyasan. Just one sample of the talent pool at CIIT, which may very well give a major complex to the Ramanand Sagars!

Does 'Ande ka Funda' ring a bell? That was one eagerly awaited -- event! Let me help you recollect the readings of the energy meter, which were recorded at that moment! The audience jumped onto the stage, dancing to the rhythm of this fundoo song, sung by Gauray Sarwate and Sachin Sharma!

Towards the end of the program, our revered teacher and guide, Mr. Keshav Sharma gave some inspiring ideas, which, we all will definitely work on. Keshav Sir, on behalf of all faculty members, accepted a small token of love and respect, presented by the students.

To conclude, it can be said that CIIT has set out to prove its excellence - we have melodic singers, classy dancers, eloquent speakers, effusive dramatists and of course an enigmatic magician too! All of them delivering imposing performances, while, simultaneously, pursuing a professional course from an institute where teachers are dedicated to take our careers to great heights! Perfect combo of things! Thank you teachers, for all the hard work you put in to make us shine up. Hats off to you!

Some reason to be proud of being a part of CIIT, wouldn't you agree?
