Institute Academic Affairs Committee (IAAC)

The Institute Academic Affairs Committee (IAAC) consists of one representative from each academic department who must be the Convenor of the Department Academic Affairs Committee (DAAC - see below) and three additional members one of whom shall be the retiring Chairman of IAAC and two shall be Senior-year students (Rank 1 of each stream - Computer Applications and Computer Science & Engineering - based on the CGPA at the end of six Semesters). The IAAC shall have jurisdiction in the following matters concerning the Academic Programs of the institute:

  • Formal approval of new courses of instruction
  • Modification of courses already approved
  • The credit value of courses
  • Deciding the academic calendar of the Institute for each academic year
  • Scheduling mid-semester and end-semester examinations during the corresponding examination week
  • Any other academic matter referred to it by APEC / Deans Council

The functions of the committee consists primarily of general policy determination, coordination and review, but the Deans Council - consisting of all Deans with the Director as the Chairman - shall retain the power of final review and shall finally decide such matters as may be appealed to the latter. In the discharge of its responsibilities, the committee shall make full use of the appraisals and recommendations of the various Departments concerned. This committee shall be assisted by the Department Academic Affairs Committees.

The Chairman of IAAC shall be elected by the faculty members of the committee from amongst themselves for a period of one year starting September 1 of each year. The term of IAAC shall also be one year commencing with the election of the Chairman. The Chairman of IAAC shall not be allowed two consecutive terms. The IAAC shall meet once a month on a prescribed day and time.

The student members shall not participate when cases of academic evaluation of individual students are being considered although if the Chairman so desires the student’s opinions may be sought prior to taking any decision. Also, the student members shall not have any voting rights.

Department Academic Affairs Committee (DAAC)

Each Department shall have a Department Academic Affairs Committee (DAAC) consisting of a Convenor to be nominated by the HOD in consultation with the faculty of the Department, the Head of the Department, and a minimum of two / maximum of four faculty members to be chosen by the Department and two students from within the Department (the top student from Semester 5 and Semester 7). The tenure of the DAAC shall be one year starting from August 16 of each year. The responsibility of the DAAC shall be as follows:

  • Pre-registration of the Department students of all Semesters
  • Recommending new courses/curricula to IAAC for approval
  • Recommending any modifications in the courses already approved to the IAAC for its approval
  • Department time-table
  • Considering any matter of academic grievance brought to its notice by a student and making appropriate recommendations to IAAC
  • Any other matter referred to it by the IAAC.

The student members shall not participate in the meeting when the cases of academic evaluation of individual students are being considered although the students’ opinion may be sought prior to taking any decisions. Also, the student members shall not have any voting rights. The DAAC shall meet once a month on a prescribed day and time.

The Convenors of the DAACs of all the Departments shall conduct the student reaction surveys for each course taught during the Semester/Term by their respective Departments. The reaction survey shall be sealed in a separate envelope for each course immediately after it has been conducted and countersigned by any two students of that course. The reaction survey envelop shall only be opened by the HOD in the presence of the concerned Instructor after the End-Semester grades have been submitted by the Instructor to the Student Affairs Division. The reaction survey shall be reviewed with the concerned Instructor and thereafter shall be handed over to him. In the case of the reaction survey of the HOD, the Director shall follow the same procedure.

Core Curriculum Committee (CCC)

The Core Curriculum Committee (CCC) is a standing committee of the IAAC consisting of three members one of whom is the out-going Chairman and the rest are nominated by the IAAC from amongst its members. The CCC is concerned with the development and evaluation of the core courses in the curriculum in consultation with the academic Departments through the respective DAACs. The CCC elects its own Chairman for a period of one year starting October 1 of each year. The term of the CCC shall be one year starting with the election of the Chairman. The Chairman of CCC shall not be allowed two consecutive terms.
The CCC shall meet once a month on a prescribed day and time.

Academic Performance Evaluation Committee (APEC)

The Academic Performance Evaluation Committee (APEC) is a standing committee of the IAAC consisting of three members one of whom is the out-going Chairman and the rest are nominated by the IAAC from amongst its members. The APEC is concerned with the academic performance of the students. The APEC functions in consultation with the DAACs. The APEC elects its own Chairman for a period of one year starting October 1 of each year. The term of the APEC shall be for one year commencing with the election of the Chairman. The Chairman of APEC shall not be allowed two consecutive terms.

Institute Students Affairs Committee (ISAC)

The Institute Students Affairs Committee (ISAC) shall consist of the Dean of Students Affairs, the Senior Most Faculty member of the Institute, and the concerned Head of the Department (also, Warden of the Hostel when appropriate). The Senior Most faculty member shall be the Convenor of ISAC. The ISAC shall be responsible primarily for dealing with all cases of indiscipline brought to its notice and shall levy penalties as per prevailing norms/procedures. They may also change any norms/procedures from time to time subject to the approval of the Deans Council.
