Standard of Assessment
CIIT follows a scheme of continuous assessment through assignments, quizzes, mid term examinations and end term examination. There are stringent academic requirements a student needs to meet in order to qualify for the award of Integrated Post Graduate Diploma in Information Technology Applications by CIIT. The assessment scheme is described in the next section.
A student enrolled for the IMPITA program also works towards:
- DOEACC ‘O’, ‘A’ and ‘B’ Level certificates; and
- B.Sc. (IT) and M.Sc. (IT) degrees from Sikkim Manipal University
Hence in addition to the continuous assessment being done by CIIT to award its diploma, the students enrolled for the IMPITA course have also to appear for the national level examinations conducted by the DOEACC Society and Sikkim Manipal University at the end of each semester. It is mandatory for the students to pass in these examinations to obtain the related certificates and degrees. The details of these exams are given below.
DOEACC Examinations
The DOEACC Society is the examination and certification body for the ‘O’, ‘A’ and ‘B’ Level course. It conducts examinations twice a year on a national basis at around 100 different centers across the country. The preparation of examination papers, supervision of exams, and evaluation of the answer sheets is all done by the DOEACC Society.
CIIT students have been doing extremely well in the DOEACC examinations.
Sikkim Manipal University Examinations
The Sikkim Manipal University is the examination and certification body for the B.Sc. (IT) and M.Sc. (IT) degrees. SMU follows a grade system in which 30% marks are awarded through continuous evaluation at CIIT and 70% marks are awarded through term end examinations. SMU conducts the term end examinations twice a year on a national basis at several centers across major cities in the country. The preparation of examination papers, supervision of exams, and evaluation of the answer sheets is all done by SMU.
Assessment Scheme and Procedures for Diploma awarded by CIIT
The assessment system at CIIT for awarding its diploma is a continuous process of evaluation and is described in brief below.
Evaluation Components
Student assessment in a subject is based on a number of evaluation components such as quizzes, two mid-semester examinations and one end-semester examination in addition to performance in home assignments and laboratory assignments.
Question Papers
The faculty in charge for the course designs the question papers for quizzes, mid term examination and end term examinations.
Invigilation
The faculty teaching the course supervises the quizzes, mid term examinations and end term examinations.
Evaluation of Answer Sheets
The faculty teaching the course does the evaluation of the answer sheets. Since examinations are a very important part of the learning process, all answer scripts of the mid-semester/end-semester examinations and quizzes are shown to the students by the Instructor-in-Charge after evaluation so that the student has an opportunity to learn from his/her mistakes and to know the right answers/approach. This also helps in avoiding any oversights on the part of the concerned Instructor.
